Technical Specs

Technical Specs: Box Liner Inserts

An overview of the standard customizations available for box liner inserts.

Corrugation

Corrugation, also known as flute, is used to strengthen the cardboard used in your packaging. They typically look like wavy lines which when glued to a paperboard, forms the corrugated board.

E-flute

Most common choice. Flute thickness of 1.2–2mm.

B-flute

Best for large boxes and heavy items. Flute thickness of 2.5–3mm.

Materials

Paperboard inserts without corrugation use a standard paper thickness of 300-400gsm. These materials contain at least 50% post-consumer content (recycled waste).

Foam packaging inserts are designed to keep products safe and secure during transportation. They are customizable, providing a snug fit that protects fragile or delicate items from potential damage.

White SBS

Solid Bleached Sulfate (SBS) paper. Ideal for vibrant, high-quality full-color printing.

Brown Kraft

Unbleached brown paper. Best suited for simple black or white designs.

PU Foam

Open-cell Polyurethane foam is softer and more flexible, resembling the material of a sponge. Available in black or white.

EVA foam

Closed-cell Ethylene Vinyl Acetate foam is more rigid and dense than open cell foam, resembling the material of a yoga mat. Available in black or white.

Color systems

All packaging is printed with soy-based ink, which is eco-friendly and produces much brighter and vibrant colors.

Compare CMYK & Pantone
CMYK

Cost-effective, standard full-color printing system.

Pantone

Coating

Coating is added to your printed designs to protect it from scratches and scuffs.

An eco-friendly, water-based protective layer.

A plastic layer that protects against scuffs, cracks, and tears.

Box liner inserts vs. foam and molded pulp inserts

A box liner insert lines the box walls, ships flat, and requires basic assembly, making it a fast, low-profile way to add wall protection to a folding carton. Foam inserts provide maximum shock absorption for high-value or fragile items that need cavity-level protection. Molded pulp inserts use an eco-first, molded-cavity approach for a more sustainable option. Each product does a different job, so the right pick depends on how much protection your item needs and how it fits inside the box.

Insert type What it protects against How it ships Assembly Best-fit product
Box liner insert Wall contact, surface scuffing inside the box Ships flat Basic assembly required Dropper bottles, cosmetics in folding cartons
Foam inserts Shock, drop impact, movement in transit Pre-formed, ships to cavity shape Minimal to none High-value electronics, fragile or heavy items
Molded pulp inserts Movement and light impact, with a sustainable material profile Pre-formed cavities Minimal to none Multi-item kits, eco-focused brands

What is the minimum order quantity for custom box liner inserts?

The minimum order quantity for custom box liner inserts is 300 units when ordered with a box, or 500 units standalone. This MOQ is specific to liner inserts and is separate from the minimums on mailer boxes, folding cartons, or other insert types in PackMojo's catalog.

Where is your packaging produced?

We manufacture all of our packaging through a vetted network of trusted production partners in China, and ship everything directly from the factory to your doorstep.

What are your lead times?

Our standard production lead times typically take 12-16 days, though larger bulk orders can take 3-4 weeks depending on the overall volume and complexity of your packaging. Total delivery timelines will vary based on the shipping method you select.

How long does shipping take?

Shipping times depend entirely on the transport method you choose for your packaging. Air freight generally takes 1-3 weeks, while ocean freight ranges from 4-8 weeks. If you are on a tight deadline, you can split your shipment to send an initial batch via air and the remainder by sea.

How do I get a quote for box liner inserts?

Pricing for box liner inserts is quote-based and depends on size, material, finish, and quantity. You can configure your liner specs and get an instant estimate through the PackMojo platform.

Can I purchase a sample before placing an order?

Absolutely. We offer several different sample types depending on what you need to test. Whether you just want to verify the physical size and fit of your packaging or need to check final colors and printed artwork, we've got you covered. You can explore all of our sample options here.

Are box liner inserts food grade?

No. Custom box liner inserts are not food grade and should not be used for direct food contact. They are designed to line the inner walls of a box for structural and cushioning purposes only.

Can I ship a product in just a box liner insert?

No. A box liner insert is not built for shipping on its own. It is designed to line the inner walls of an existing box, most commonly a folding carton, and we strongly recommends using an additional shipping carton around it for transit.
