Custom Candle Boxes With Inserts
Custom candle boxes need to do two things: keep a heavy, often glass vessel from moving in transit, and present the candle like the premium product it is. Choose the box by how your candle is sold
Retail shelf: a folding carton with a snap lock bottom
A printed folding carton is the most common candle box for retail. It's light, ships flat, and gives you six printed panels for the scent name, notes, burn time and brand story. For candles, choose the base carefully. A snap lock (1-2-3) bottom interlocks into a secure base made for heavier items like candles and glass jars, and an auto bottom (crash lock) is pre-glued and snaps open, which speeds up packing. A straight tuck end top keeps the front panel clean for the shelf.
Folding cartons use 300-400gsm paperboard and start at 100 units. A die-cut window lets the vessel or wax colour show through. Gifting and luxury: a rigid or magnetic rigid box
For gift sets, luxury lines and seasonal collections, a rigid box gives the weight and finish that justify a higher price. The structure is chipboard of 1000-2000gsm depending on box size, wrapped in printed paper. Choose a two-piece lid and base for a classic lift-off reveal, or a magnetic closure box that opens like a book and closes with a click. Shipping direct to customers: a mailer box with an insert
If you sell online, the box has to survive a courier network as well as look good on arrival. A corrugated mailer box with a fitted insert does both in one package. The corrugated board (E or B-flute) absorbs knocks, and the insert stops the vessel from hitting the walls. Mailer boxes with inserts start at 300 units and can be printed inside and out. Standalone mailer boxes start at 100 units.
Inserts that stop a candle moving
Most candle damage in transit comes from movement: a jar sliding into a box wall, a lid working loose, a pillar's edge chipping against the corner. An insert holds the vessel still. The right material depends on the vessel's weight and fragility:
- EVA foam (high protection): dense, closed-cell foam with a cutout moulded to the vessel. It's the choice for glass jars and heavy vessels, and for luxury gift boxes where the candle should sit perfectly framed when the lid comes off.
- PU foam (high protection): soft, flexible cushioning for lighter vessels that need gentle surface protection, such as a matte ceramic that could scuff.
- Corrugated board, E-flute or B-flute (medium-high protection): a sturdy, recyclable insert for heavier candles and multi-candle sets, available with or without a raised backing.
- Paperboard, 300-400gsm (light-medium protection): clean partitions for tins, smaller votives and candles that sit flat at the base of the box.

Sizing tip: measure the vessel at its widest point including the lid, and measure any accessories that go in the box (a wick trimmer, a match book, a care card). Send us those measurements, or the vessel itself for a foam cutout, and the insert and box are sized together.
Materials and finishes for a premium candle box
Paper. Choose white SBS for vivid full-colour print, brown kraft for a natural, rustic look, or white kraft for an uncoated, textured, organic feel that pairs well with clean-ingredient candles. All board contains at least 50% post-consumer recycled content and is printed with soy-based inks.
Coating. A water-based varnish is the more eco-friendly option. Lamination gives the most protection against scuffs and fingerprints, which matters on dark or solid-color boxes. A plastic-free biodegradable lamination is available for rigid boxes.
Finish. Matte, glossy, satin or soft-touch. Soft-touch adds a velvet-like texture that suits luxury candles.
Add-ons. Foil stamping (gold, rose gold, silver) for the logo or scent name, spot UV for a gloss accent on a matte box, and embossing or debossing for texture. Lead times
Production and quality checks take 12-16 days for standard orders. Including shipping, orders typically arrive 3-7 weeks after payment by air freight, or 5-13+ weeks by ocean freight for large orders.
