What is aseptic packaging?

Aseptic packaging is a process where goods are sterilized before being put into sterile packaging in a sterile environment. It is often done under high temperatures to maintain hygiene and freshness so that the contents are not contaminated. There is usually an inner and outer layer of plastic to protect the product, along with a film foil layer that keeps oxygen out and limits light exposure.

Aseptic packaging allows products to be shelf-stable without preservatives, often for up to 12 months, making it a solution seen commonly in the food and beverage or the pharmaceutical industry. It also allows for reduced shipping and distribution costs as the products can maintain their quality without being refrigerated during transport.
