What is debossing in packaging?

Debossing is a process used to create indented designs that are sunken into the packaging.

Debossoing, opposite of embossing, add texture and dimension to any packaging. The photograph shows embossing above and debossing below.

Able to be performed on a variety of packaging products, the additional tactile and visual effects often help to elevate a brand's image by adding a premium look and feel to the packaging.

Debossing works well for rigid boxes or cardstock products such as folding carton boxes. Due to the composition of corrugated packaging, we recommend avoiding debossing on corrugated materials. To understand more, read about embossing and debossing on various materials here.
